Believe it or not this happened to Baud when he was a baby thief. I got to know a new province pretty well. But in this case I think we're taking it to an extreme. I think he thought I was just a really mean trader, and he gave me the pouches willingly I didn't mug him or anything, and then I gave them back from hiding. Banishment seems a little out of proportion.

Item thievery and graverobbery have been historically frowned upon by the Thief guild because they don't require any skill. Basically, anyone can do it, and it brings a lot more heat than standard pickpocketing, so it's regarded as cheap and style-less.
The fact that they were gems mitigates it some, but there's definitely a historical explanation for a Thief who frowns upon item thieving.

Here's the crux of it. What he did wasn't shady, it was bold and stupid. The theives guild frowns heavily upon stuff like that.

<<It's not about pity for me. I'm concerned over people not caring about a thief bringing a fight to another thief because they stole gems from a non-thief. >>
its not that so much as this...
Rule # 1 for thieves.
Don't get caught.
the problem is, you "stole" them in a way that she knew who took 'em. If you had nabbed coin or other gems the "normal" way without her catching you, it would have been more the way the guild usually operates. On the other hand, you did get "away" with it without getting the justice system involved, so its sort of a wash.
unfortunately, by letting folks know here on the boards they will know it was a thief and not just some dishonest trader. We do have room for all kind of thieves in the guild though.
Your "style" is very much reminiscent of Ann, who used to do very much the same thing, while portraying herself as a "trader". Do it in style. Make a trader friend or two <i.e. offering them "protection" while on the routes, teaching or being taught things while they run the routes. So then when you "run" from a similar "scam", you'll have some friends who can "smuggle" you into the traders guild to "hide out" there. That way again - people won't be coming after a thief, but a "trader". Put some style into it. See what you can do with it by running with it and making it your "style".

Go on trade routes and script lores with a trader? lol! I'm an opportunist, and not obsessed with secrecy. I saw a chance to make some quick coin in an amusing way and took it. If people find out and get upset over it and do something rash like ambush me in front of the bank, I'm perfectly happy to engage that situation as well. Now I'm just looking for the next gig (and training evasion).

It's proven in 90% of cases
It's like never playing an instrument or videogame, going to guitary hero and trying to play freebird on elite your first time out. They tend to try and flaunt all their new elite abilities immediately all over the faces of people that either can't fight back or they believe they should stomp all over and do it in hysterical ways.
Like Edgee berserking before shooting Zaeylor for no reason. Or Edgee warstomping a group of people he couldn't see in hiding. It's like the dude runs through the manual of abilities from a - z in manners that don't many any sense and fails in the process.

Shenanigans.
I bet you even sat in hiding until you got full aim before typing "fire".
You ambushed him and immediately tried to reload, which is why I'm calling shenanigans; you botched the kill. We've all done it before. In the future, when flexing against someone 100+ circles below your new toy, just type "fire <person> chest" and you'll be fine. If you want to get flashy, perhaps "fire <person> right eye".
You may even want to have your tag-team Barbs fire at the exact same time, each one targetting a different leg or something... longbow to the right leg, short bow to the left leg. I like that idea. Make it so.
